Hero Dog Saves Point Beach Man from Fire
Point Pleasant Beach resident, Kent Standawgs, was recently saved from a blistering inferno by a heroic dog. When Standawgs became trapped in his home by the blaze, the dog's loud barking alerted neighbors of the peril. Fortunately, with the help of his neighbor, Standawgs was able to put out the fire and emerge safely. Now, the stray pooch is rightfully being hailed as hero.
Kent Standawgs still can't believe what happened. "How did everyone start thinking that this dog is a hero?" he asked. "Let me tell you what really happened. I had just started cooking some porkchops and suddenly this monster dog jumps through the screen door! Went right through it like it wasn't there. And this dog was really big! More like a small horse than a dog. Then it comes into the kitchen and starts growling at me. It was terrifying! The dog knocks over the pan and starts eating the porkchops, but grease on the stove started burning. I tried to get to the fire extinguisher, but the beast wouldn't let me by. He just laid on the floor eating the porkchops! When he finished, he started barking at me, I guess because he wanted more food. Luckily my neighbor heard him and came over. The dog ran outside, and we were able to put out the fire that the dog had started!"
Kay Ninefan from the organization Dogs Of Great Service (DOGS), says this is a story of a true canine hero. "DOGS was created to recognize dogs that perform great acts of courage that benefit humans. This dog is such a dog," said Ninefan. "Since we've been unable to find an owner of the dog, we've named him Ajax, like the ancient Greek hero!"
Kent Standawgs isn't sure he agrees with the choice of name. "Ajax? Are they kidding?! The only reason to call that dog Ajax is because when he's around there's going to be a lot of cleaning to do. A better name would be Menace or maybe Devil Dog or how about Hellhound. Any of those would be more appropriate. Look, I've got nothing against dogs, except for this one. This dog is not a good boy!"
Dogs Of Great Service arranged a special award ceremony for Ajax which was held at the Point Beach town hall. "It was a wonderful event," said Kay Ninefan. "Ajax is such a bundle of energy. He seemed to really enjoy it. He bounded around from person to person, playfully knocking them over. He did manage to eat someone's phone, but those kinds of things happen with energetic dogs. It's like the 'love bites' he gave to a few people. Ajax just loves playing and those people went to the hospital just as a precaution."
Kay Ninefan said she was a bit surprised that Kent Standawgs did not attend the ceremony but assumed he didn't want to take the spotlight away from Ajax. "What is really exciting, though, is that later today we're dropping Ajax off at Mr. Standawg's house. We know he'll be anxious to adopt him and make him a part of his family!"
When Ajax arrived at Kent Standawg's house, they were clearly excited to see each other. Mr. Stamdawg's immediately started running with the playful pooch close behind, barking and nipping. They haven't been seen since but there have been reports of a terrified man being chased by some sort of bear near the beach.
