HGTV's "House Haunters" Hosted by Local Medium Who Helps Ghosts Relocate
What happens when a spirit that's trapped in the earthly realm loses the place it has been haunting? Maybe the creepy old house was torn down, or maybe the spirits had to leave because the building became a tourist trap when ghost hunters found out it was haunted. Whatever the reason, these spirits often find themselves without a proper home and are forced to wander, unable to fulfill their destiny as haunting ghosts. Luckily, there are mediums like Mantoloking's Krystal Bahl. She specializes in helping displaced spirits find new homes to haunt. Her ghostly experiences are so intriguing that Cake City Productions has created House Haunters, a reality show featuring Krystal.
House Haunters uses the format of some real estate programs. Instead of a realtor, the medium visits three properties where she invokes the spirits so they can see the features of each home and determine if they are a good match with the owners. "Sometimes the ghosts like to test out certain things. For example, they might want to see if the cabinets in the kitchen are easy to open all at once. Other ghosts are more concerned that the basement is appropriately creepy and not being used as a man-cave. They often want to make sure that the attic creaks easily when they move around. I remember one spirit was especially concerned that the house had enough evil looking dolls for her to possess. Another was concerned about how much closet space there was, for some reason."
After the ghosts have visited the three homes, a séance is held where Krystal Bahl communicates with the spirits. They review the good points and bad points of each home. Once the decision is made, Krystal helps the spirits possess their new home. The show ends with a return visit one month later to see how things are going.
"The return is always quite interesting," said Krystal. "Sometimes the spirits will have taken possession of the homeowners, or even their pets. Other times they will just be haunting certain areas of the house. One homeowner said he was very happy when a spirit decided to haunt his den. He said that room is always nice and cool now."
Cake City Productions is working on the second season of the show. Juniper Davison, President of Cake City, says there is a an open casting call for House Haunters. If you or someone you know is a displaced ghost, and would like to be on TV, contact Krystal Bahl or visit the Cake City website. Season 1 is currently airing on HGTV with new episodes premiering on Tuesday nights.
