Local Woman Opens GoFundMe Page After Losing Precious Memento

There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing something that is very dear to us. Maybe it is a family heirloom, or something with great sentimental value. Bay Head resident, Iona Yaht, recently suffered such a loss. While walking on the beach her favorite bracelet was lost. She searched frantically, but without success.

"When you have something you really treasure," Iona said, "losing it can feel like the end of the world. When I realized it was missing on the beach, I tried so hard to find it. I mean, I didn't touch the sand with my hands or anything. You never know who has been walking on it and there's always something gross. But I did walk back and forth a couple of times hoping I might spot it."

The Yaht's insurance policy would not provide full restitution for the bracelet. "I couldn't believe they wouldn't cover it," said Iona. "Just two weeks prior I had paid $12K American dollars for the bracelet while we were in Monaco. Our insurance said they would only cover it up to $8K. I couldn't believe it! What kind of diamond bracelet can you get for that? They expect me to settle for emeralds?"

Iona was devastated. She didn't know what to do. That was when her husband, Rich, suggested she start a GoFundMe page. GoFundMe allows individuals who need money because of a sudden loss to ask the community to help out. Sympathetic individuals can then make donations to help the person recover from the loss.

Since Rich Yaht has posted the GoFundMe page, they have already gotten over $7K in donations. The page reads: "My dear wife recently lost a bracelet that was precious to her. The poor woman is heartbroken. Insurance refuses to refund the value! Can you please help? Her sadness is compromising her health and I fear what might become of her!" Rich says that his wife's weeping had given her a slight headache.

"It's just wonderful!" said Iona. "With the GoFundMe money and the $8K we got from insurance I can buy a new bracelet and even get an everyday watch for Rich. And what's even better is that when our housekeeper was doing the laundry, she found the original bracelet in the pocket of my pants! I forgot I had taken it off earlier that day. I gave her a well deserved $20 bonus. Now I can buy another bracelet that I've had my eye on."

Iona can't say enough good things about GoFundMe. "Using GoFundMe was really a great experience for me. It just goes to show how generous people can be. Now that I know about it, I plan to use it more often. Seriously, I don't know why people even bother to work now that GoFundMe exists."
