Local Dad Ruins Every Father's Day
For most families, Father's Day is a happy holiday where children get to show their appreciation for their male parent. Get-togethers and cook-outs are common ways families unite to celebrate the holiday. Usually, a father will be given gifts that reflect his interests and hobbies. It should be a pleasant day for everyone. But for one family, Father's Day has become an annual nightmare.
Macon Trubble says he doesn't mean to upset his family. "I don't see what the big deal is. I just don't like it when people make a big deal over me. Is that such a big deal?"
"Dad always says it's not a big deal," says 18-year-old daughter Kelly, "but it is kind of a big deal. We never know what to buy for him. He doesn't fish. He doesn't play golf. He doesn't watch sports. He doesn't like restaurants, He doesn't wear ties to work, He hates get-togethers of any kind. He doesn't enjoy grilling. He doesn't even like cake! What are we supposed to do?"
"He really is impossible," says 21-year-old son Kevin. "He does this thing where he'll go shopping for clothes for himself right before Father's Day. He'll buy himself shirts or sneakers or anything else he needs. He says he does it because there are great sales. That's true, but we're the ones who are supposed to be shopping, not him!"
"The only thing he does is read," says wife Wendy. "Mostly he reads the newspaper. He might be one of the few people left in America who reads a printed newspaper every day. He won't read online. He doesn't even have a smartphone. He hates technology. And don't think about buying books for him. He says it's a waste of money. Macon only reads books from the library."
The Trubble family decided a few years ago that it was best to not celebrate Father's Day. As much as it pains them, they just treat it as a regular Sunday. The most they will do is wish Macon a happy Father's Day and make some of his favorite foods. "We really love Dad. He's a great father. We just wish we could do more for him," said Kelly. While they may not realize it, Macon is perfectly happy with how his family treats him on Father's Day.
"I don't have many interests," he says. "The truth is the only thing I really care about is my family. They're the best thing about me. More than anything I love being together not just on Father's Day, but every day. So just having them with me is the best gift I could get. Although, it might be nice if I got a new electric razor this year."
Buy that man a new razor and just tell him you love him. That’s all he wants
