Stray "Benny" Spotted in Several Shore Towns
A lost "Benny" is on the loose in the local area. He has been sighted in Point Borough, Point Beach, and Bay Head. With the summer season over, visitors have returned to their homes up north, but apparently one Benny was left behind. Officer Annette Izneeded of the Point Pleasant Beach Police says that from time to time someone accidentally leaves the shore but forgets a beloved family member.
"It doesn't happen too often," said Officer Izneeded. "But sometimes as they hurry to pack up their car, a family will lose track and a Benny will get away. My guess is that's what happened this time. Now we have a lost Benny running around in our area."
Officer Izneeded says that the stray Benny has been spotted by numerous people, but so far no one has been able to catch him. "A lost Benny can be very scared and will tend to run when he sees anyone. This Benny is pretty skittish. Some police officers have approached the Benny a couple of times, but each time he ran away."
Police in Point Beach, Point Borough, and Bay Head are working together to catch the stray. "We know he's probably hungry and confused by now," said Officer Izneeded. "He most likely can't understand why the Boardwalk is so empty and why there are so few people on the beaches. He might try to get in places that are closed for the season. Most Bennys are harmless, but they can be a nuisance and have been known to make a mess on yards or cause trouble for locals. We want to make sure that doesn't happen. We're trying to catch him as soon as possible so he'll be safe until we can reunite him with his family."
The three police departments have come up with a new plan they think will be effective. "We're going to put a couple of slices of pizza and a beer in front of each police station," said Officer Izneeded. "Bennys can't resist pizza and beer. Sooner or later, we figure he'll turn up at one of the stations and we can catch him. We're hoping he has some sort of identification so we can get him back where he belongs."
Officer Annette Izneeded advises anyone who sees the stray Benny to contact their local
